Pint of Science festival

The Pint of Science Festival, a global phenomenon occurring annually every May, aims to break down the barriers between scientists and the general public by bringing research discussions into relaxed, accessible venues like pubs and cafes. This innovative format encourages casual, engaging conversations about science in a setting where curiosity thrives, and no prior knowledge is required.

This year, Liverpool will host a variety of events as part of the Pint of Science festival, including several organised by Liverpool John Moores University researchers. One highlight among these is a session featuring researchers from the TARGET project, which explores the pivotal role of personalized care in today's healthcare landscape.

Digital twins: the AI revolution in healthcare is here!

TARGET project coordinator Dr Sandra Ortega-Martorell, Reader in Data Science, and  Dr Ivan Olier-Caparroso, Reader in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from the Liverpool John Moores University, alongside Professor Gregory Lip, Price-Evans Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine from the University of Liverpool, will lead discussions on how artificial intelligence and digital twins can revolutionise healthcare.

They will discuss how utilizing AI and digital twin technologies—where a patient's digital model is continuously updated with real-time health data—can enable healthcare providers to anticipate and address patient-specific medical complications. This approach signifies a shift towards precision medicine, where treatment decisions are informed by detailed, individualized data insights, thereby revolutionizing patient care and improving health outcomes globally.

As part of the broader Pint of Science Festival, the event not only aims to demystify science but also to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the research that impacts our everyday lives. The festival's casual approach helps dissolve the intimidating barriers of traditional academic discourse, making science accessible and enjoyable for all.
