New postdoctoral research associate opportunity in AI & healthcare at the University of Liverpool

The Department of Eye and Vision Sciences and the Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science (LCCS), at the University of Liverpool, have announced a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position. The researcher will have the opportunity to contribute to TARGET’s goal to developing novel AI-powered diagnostic tools to support the managements of patients with stroke.

Contract Duration: 30 months

This position represents a unique opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment at the interface of AI, machine learning, computational healthcare, and clinical translation. The selected candidate will join Professor Yalin Zheng’s group working on the development of AI and machine learning algorithms and have significant scope to develop their own research ideas within the LCCS over the duration of the position. The researcher will also be given the opportunity to contribute to teaching and engage with career development opportunities. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Conduct high-standard research focused on developing, optimizing, and validating AI algorithms for early detection of comorbidity and multimorbidity patterns; 
  • Conduct data analysis, and ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times; 
  • Guide and support PhD/Master's students involved in the project; 
  • Prepare reports and publish papers related to this project and disseminate research at conferences; 
  • Attend meetings with the Europe-wide team and stakeholders, and work with group members and wider collaborators; 
  • Undertake administrative roles as needed, participate in career development activities, and conduct research with integrity and transparency. 

 

Requirements for the Postdoc position: 

Education: PhD (or near completion) in relevant fields such as computer science, engineering, statistics, or mathematics 

Knowledge and Experience: Candidates for this postdoc position must possess extensive knowledge and experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and algorithm development, desirably in healthcare applications and biomedical imaging. They should have expertise in computer vision, image analysis, and handling large datasets. A proven track record of collaborative research that has resulted in publications in leading international journals is essential. Additionally, candidates must be proficient in Linux, Pytorch, Tensorflow, and related tools, with a background in biostatistics being highly desirable. 

Additional skills: Should include programming skills (Python and C/C++ and knowledge of GitHub), experience writing research paper drafts independently and assisting others and desirable knowledge of GitHub and using high-performance computing (HPC) facilities.
