New European Network to support AI-Powered Advanced Screening Centres
- 23 March 2026
As part of its Apply AI Strategy, the European Commission has announced a new European Network of AI-Powered Advanced Screening Centres, designed to enhance disease prevention and early diagnosis across Europe.
The initiative will bring together healthcare organisations deploying, piloting or assessing AI solutions in clinical environments. These efforts focus in particular on improving the prevention, early detection and diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, which remain among the leading causes of death in Europe.
What are the benefits for participating organisations?
The network will operate as a community of practice, supporting the exchange of experiences, lessons learned and best practices in the use of AI in healthcare. It will also promote structured collaboration between healthcare providers, researchers and industry stakeholders.
Participating organisations will benefit from:
- - Peer learning opportunities, including regular meetings and knowledge-sharing activities
- - Training and capacity-building, covering AI validation, ethics, interoperability and data governance
- - Access to EU-level insights and outputs, including initiatives such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS), COMPASS-AI and Cancer Image Europe
- - Collaboration across sectors, fostering dialogue between healthcare, research and industry
- - Involvement in real-world studies evaluating innovative AI tools before market deployment
- - Visibility as early adopters, with recognition as reference sites for AI in healthcare at EU level
Call for expression of interest
Healthcare organisations wishing to join the network are invited to submit an expression of interest by 10 April 2026.
