IMIM Showcases TARGET Virtual Twin Advances at VHGS II 2025
- 25 October 2025
Barcelona / New York City – October 23–24, 2025 – The VHGS II Summit brought together global leaders from science, medicine, industry and policy to accelerate the adoption of Virtual Human Twins in healthcare. This year, the EU funded TARGET project was represented by Hospital del Mar Research Institute Barcelona (IMIM), underlining the project’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of personalised stroke care.
At the Summit’s Therapeutic Application II: The Brain session, Dr. Eva Giralt – Neurovascular Research Group, Department of Neurology at IMIM – presented the TARGET initiative’s pioneering work on Health Virtual Twins for the Personalised Management of Stroke Related to Atrial Fibrillation. Dr. Giralt’s presentation showcased how TARGET’s virtual twin and AI driven models aim to transform the prevention, risk prediction, acute management and rehabilitation of AF related stroke (AFRS), offering more precise, dynamic, and patient centred care.
The dual venue format of VHGS II, with sessions in Barcelona and an alternate site in New York City, underscored the global and collaborative nature of the Virtual Human Twins movement. More than a demonstration of technology, the Summit emphasized the need for cross disciplinary cooperation, regulatory clarity, stakeholder alignment and patient centred innovation, themes that resonate deeply with TARGET’s three pillar strategy: risk prediction, diagnosis/management, and personalised rehabilitation.
IMIM’s contribution at VHGS II represents a significant milestone in the translation of TARGET from research to the clinic. By integrating virtual twins of the brain (and other organ systems) with clinical practice, TARGET is helping to lay the groundwork for a paradigm shift in how AFRS is understood, prevented and treated, ultimately improving patient outcomes, quality of life, and healthcare sustainability.
We look forward to continued engagement with the global Virtual Human Twins community and to further advancing TARGET’s mission in the months ahead.
