Exciting Research Opportunity in Artificial Intelligence at Liverpool John Moores University

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is inviting applications for a Research Associate in Artificial Intelligence to contribute to TARGET’s overarching goals: develop AI-based, personalised, and integrated multi-scale computational models (virtual twins) and decision-support tools to address the disease pathway of stroke related to atrial fibrillation (AF) This is a full-time, fixed-term position for two years, with a salary range of £31,637 – £37,174 per annum. About the Project 

The successful applicant will join the School of Computer Science and Mathematics. The project focuses on the development of personalised, multi-scale computational models—virtual twins—that simulate disease progression and support clinical decision-making. These tools aim to prevent AF and related strokes, enhance treatment and rehabilitation, and improve long-term outcomes for patients while reducing healthcare costs. 

Role overview 

Key responsibilities include conducting advanced research in AI and digital twins, managing large-scale multimodal datasets, and collaborating with project partners across Europe. The postholder will contribute to publications, funding proposals, student supervision, and conferences. Maintaining data confidentiality, adhering to quality standards, and participating in sustainability and equality initiatives are also core aspects of the role. 

Candidate profile 

LJMU is looking for a highly motivated researcher with: 

- A PhD (or equivalent experience) in AIComputer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related field 

- A strong background in AI-based research 

- A clear interest in the field of digital twins 

- Expertise in publishing academic peer-reviewed articles
