The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is a renowned research institution situated in Brussels, Belgium. Prof. Bart Jansen

Bart Jansen is a professor at the Department of Electronics and Informatics (ETRO) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is interested in developing image and signal processing methods and artificial intelligence methods for a variety of applications in the broad biomedical engineering domain, but mainly focusing on rehabilitation engineering. He builds software and algorithms to understand and improve the rehabilitation process, including computer games, algorithms for dynamic difficulty adjustment, biomechanic analysis from low-cost sensors, a variety of AI methods on medical data, augmented reality in medical applications and many more. Bart Jansen graduated in 2001 with a Master of Science in Computer Science, obtained a master after master in AI in 2003 and obtained a PhD in computer science (VUB Ai-lab, promotor Luc Steels) in 2005, all from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Since 2006, he has been working at the department of electronics and informatics (ETRO) at VUB. In 2016 he became a professor and since 2020 he also has a 10% appointment with imec. Bart Jansen is teaching computer science and AI-related courses in the bachelor of Engineering Sciences as well as the master in Applied Computer Science, the master in Biomedical Engineering and the Postgraduate on Rehabilitation and Human Sustainable Technology.

Prof. dr. Eva Swinnen

Eva Swinnen works as an assistant professor neurological rehabilitation and rehabilitation technology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Rehabilitation Research Group (RERE, www.research.vub.be). She is head of the Brubotics Rehabilitation Research Center (BRRC, a state-of-the-art movement analysis lab. The focus of her research is on neurological rehabilitation and rehabilitation technology. She is part of the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) guideline working group motor/gait rehabilitation and is board member of the Belgium Society for Neurorehabilitation (www.BSNR.org), steering group member of the Brussels Human Robotics Research Center (www.brubotics.eu) and co-director of the Center for Neurosciences of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (http://www.c4n.be/www.C4N.be).

Prof. Dr. Sylvie De Raedt

Sylvie De Raedt is a vascular neurologist at the Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel and a clinical professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She obtained her PhD in 2015 on autonomic dysfunction in acute ischemic stroke. Her research focus is on ischemic stroke complications such as delirium and fatigue. She is involved in several ongoing clinical stroke research projects together with the Rehabilitation Research Group of the VUB. She is secretary general of the Belgian Stroke Council (www.belgianstrokecouncil.be), national coordinator of the Stroke-Action Plan for Europe (https://actionplan.eso-stroke.org/) and member of the EAN Scientific Panel Neurosonology (www.ean.org/home/organisation/scientific-panels/neurosonology).

Dr Lubos Omelina

Lubos Omelina is a post-doc research scientist in the Department of Electronics and Informatics (ETRO) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He works on image processing methods for the analysis of the human body, e.g. face, eyes, pose, and body motion. With his colleagues, he focuses on applications in physical therapy and medical diagnostics.
