The Computational Science for Health and Environment (COSHE) group gathers interdisciplinary research based on developing and using computational methods with applications that address scientific problems in areas related to health and environment. It combines methodological developments and a wide range of applications addressing research questions in different fields. Research in Computational Science at CEC combines methodological developments and a wide range of applications addressing research questions in different fields. Our research is conducted in several different directions, mainly in collaboration with researchers in various disciplines in Science and Medicine at Lund University and elsewhere. Computational methods include systems modelling, machine learning, statistical learning, numerical methods for faster optimisation, solutions for handling large data and new ways to perform computations. 

Key persons

Prof Mattias Ohlsson

Mattias Ohlsson is a professor at Lund University and the coordinator of TARGET. His research interests focus on machine learning and its applications in information-driven healthcare, ranging from outcome prediction using specific medical registers to analysis of patient trajectories using more comprehensive medical databases. He is further interested in deep generative models, self-supervised learning, and the research around explainable AI. Prof Ohlsson is also a professor at Halmstad University, Sweden, where he leading and co-leading information-driven care projects together with industrial partners.

Prof Carsten Peterson

Carsten Peterson is a senior professor at Lund University. His scientific profile encompasses statistical mechanics, machine learning, hard optimization problems, information-driven healthcare, dynamical systems biology, stem cell biology and quantum computing.

Dr Anders Björkelund

Anders Björkelund is a researcher at Lund University. He has applied machine learning (ML) techniques in interdisciplinary settings for the past 15 years, including applications such as linguistics and the healthcare domain. He is currently involved in several projects where extensive electronic health record data is used to build prediction models aimed to be used in clinical settings.
